Throughout the year, Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast at Disneyland Paris has been getting a refurbishment. This includes enhanced effects, audio-animatronics, lights, paints, and more! The Discoveryland attraction opened in 2006 at Disneyland Paris. In it, guests join Buzz Lightyear in a battle against the evil Emperor Zurg.
The refurbishment found the attraction getting some significant upgrades. Maintenance, construction and Imagineering teams at Disneyland Paris worked together to upgrade all of the lights. This meant neon lights were replaced with LED ribbon lights on the exterior of the attraction. Inside, the special effects, lighting, and painting were completely redone. This is as the attraction now utilizes ultraviolet light or black light.
“It was necessary to identify the areas to be restored due to the change of black light lighting that took place in all the scenes,” said stage finishing designer Anne-Cécile Houron. “It is a question of repainting all the sets and characters so they have their original brightness and have a very flashy and rather atypical color result.”
Throughout the course of the refurbishment, over 40 animated figures and accessories were given special attention. Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast is set to reopening in February 2021 at Disneyland Paris.
