Alfred Molina is becoming Doctor Octopus again for Spider-Man 3. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the villain that was up against Toby Maguire’s Spider-Man in 2004’s Spider-Man 2 will be appearing in the Tom Holland led Spider-Man 3 that is set to be in theaters next year.
Molina’s involvement had already been rumored after he was seen on the set for Spider-Man 3. Now sources are telling Hollywood Reporter that the fan-favorite villain will be appearing in this film. He won’t be the only crossover from other incarnations of Spider-Man coming to the film. Jamie Foxx is also going to be returning as Electro, a role he played in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This movie starred Andrew Garfield in the title role. Foxx posted and then deleted on Instagram that it was possible that all three versions of Spider-Man could be appearing in the upcoming Spider-Man film.
Neither Marvel nor Sony have commented to confirm or deny this.
The next Spider-Man film will be arriving in theaters on December 17, 2021, with Tom Holland again in the title role. Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home director John Watts will be returning to helm this film. Benedict Cumberbatch is also set to appear as Doctor Strange. Tom Holland will also be joined by current Spider-Man regulars Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolori.
Spider-Man: Far From Home was actually the last Marvel Studios film to be released in theaters. It garnered over $1 billion at the box office. This made it the most successful Spider-Man movie in history.
