As Governor Newsom continues to revise the theme park reopening guidelines, more agencies have called for theme parks to open. This morning, the Orange County Health Care Agency has officially recommended that Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm open to the public once again.
The agency has said that the theme parks should be able to reopen when Orange County moves into the next tier of Newsom’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy. Currently, the OC is in the “red tier” and according to the blueprint, the county will have to stay in this tier for at least three weeks before it could advance. To move forward, the county must keep its new case rate below 3.9 per 100,000 and its testing positivity rate below 4.9% for two consecutive weeks.
Of course, both parks have remained closed since they shut their gates back in Mid-March. While Knott’s Berry Farm has been able to hold food festivals, Disneyland has only reopened the Downtown Disney District. Governor Gavin Newsom was originally set to release guidelines for theme park reopening last week but theme parks asked for them to be reviewed.
While we will see what will happen next, I think it’s very interesting that the Orange County Health Care Agency has also called for these Southern California theme parks to reopen. We should look to our local health care agencies for advice and hopefully Governor Newsom accepts this input.
