Doctor Strange is going to be appearing in Spider-Man 3. The character, portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch, appears to be stepping into the role of mentor for Peter Parker/Spider-Man. This role, previously held first by Iron Man and then by Nicky Fury in previous movies. In this movie Peter Parker will be looking up to Doctor Strange and also building a bigger connection for the Sony movie to the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The addition of Doctor Strange to Spider-Man 3 continues to add some big names to the movie. Jamie Foxx is reportedly returning to the franchise as Electro, a role he previously brought to life in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man in 2014.
Doctor Strange appearing in this movie could also explain the appearance of Electro as Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, the sequel to the first Doctor Strange, will explore alternate realities. There is plenty of speculation that this will lead to some connections between multiple versions of these movies with potentially more crossovers appearing.
Spider-Man 3 is expected to begin shooting later this month in Atlanta. Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is also set to begin filming this month as well, but in London. It isn’t known when Benedict Cumberbatch will film his scenes for Spider-Man 3 or how many there will be.
Jon Watts is returning to direct Spider-Man 3, which is expected to arrive in theaters on December 17, 2021. However, with release dates getting new release dates becoming quite common now, it would not be surprising to see this date change.
