Actor Sean Connery Has Died at 90

Actor Sean Connery has died at the age of 90. The actor died peacefully in his sleep in the Bahamas after being “unwell for some time”, his son shared.

Sean Connery was born on August 25, 1930, in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, Scotland. Named Thomas Sean Connery, he was called by his middle name starting at a young age. Before becoming an actor, his first job was as a milkman. He then went on to join the Royal Navy at 16 years old. After being discharged from the Navy he returned to his old job and picked up several other jobs as well. He would go on to become a model,  bodybuilder, and almost a footballer for Manchester United. Instead, he decided he would become an actor.

His career in entertainment began with Connery working backstage at the King’s Theatre in 1951. This led eventually to some roles on the stage. It also led to some small television roles as well as the 50s wore. By 1959, he was picked for his biggest role to date in Darby O’Gil and the Little People.

Throughout a career that spanned 50 years, Sean Connery had multiple memorable roles. He was known for originating the role of James Bond in 1962’s Dr. No. In 1988 he won an Oscar for his role in The Untouchables. In 1990, Connery played Captain Marco Ramius in The Hunt for Red October. He also appeared in Highlander, Entrapment, First Knight, The Avengers, and The League of Extraordinary Gentleman.

With Disney, he had multiple roles throughout his career. In 1959 he played Michael MacBride in Darby O’Gil and the Little People. As time went by, he would also portray Dr. Robert Campbell in Medicinne Man, Captain John Patrick Mason in The Rock for Hollywood Pictures. He also portrayed Dr. Henry Jones, Sr in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Connery was also offered some roles that he turned down. He turned down the role of Gandalf for The Lord of the Rings. He also turned down the role of the Architect in The Matrix. He also chose to not return to the role of Dr. Henry Jones, Sr for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Sean Connery leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Micheline Roquebrune, and sons Jason and Stephane.
