Spaceship Earth to Remain Open at EPCOT

When guests return to the Walt Disney World Resort in June there will be lots of changes. One change that was expected, and won’t be happening, is that Spaceship Earth will not be undergoing a refurbishment at EPCOT. This news came from an interview with union representative Eric Clinton.

In a recent interview with the Orlando Sentinel, Clinton confirmed that the iconic attraction will be open when EPCOT reopens. He also indicated that its expected refurbishment is currently on hold indefinitely. This comes after Disney Parks globally had to close due to health concerns surrounding COVID-19.

Originally, the reimagining of Spaceship Earth was set to begin on May 26th. This was to be the fourth upgrade for the attraction. The attraction would still tell the human story and how light played a central role in it. It would enhance some scenes and these would be “blended with brand-new scenes to tell a story about our human experience.” If or when this refurbishment will happen its now unknown.

Through the years, the various incarnations of Spaceship Earth have had different narrators. These narrators had different scripts and were utilized as the attraction changed through the years.

  • Vic Perrin (1982-1986).
  • Walter Cronkite (1986-1994)
  • Jeremy irons (1994-2007)
  • Judi Dench (2007-present)

Here is the current version of Spaceship Earth with Judi Dench narrating. The accompanying soundtrack was written by Bruce Broughton.
