This afternoon, the Disneyland Resort announced that they would not be opening on July 17 as they had originally planned weeks ago. It is unclear at this time when the new reopening date could be.
The news came after the State of California announced that they would not be reviewing reopening plans for theme parks until this first week of July. This would not give Disneyland enough time to call their cast members back to work in time for reopening on the 65th anniversary, so Disney has decided to postpone their opening date themselves.
While Disneyland has chosen to delay the opening, they have also announced that they have signed 20 union agreements that represent 11,000 cast members. All discussions have been positive and have outlined the safety protocol that will be in place for cast members and guests of the Disneyland Resort when the parks reopen at a later date.
At this time, Downtown Disney District will still open on July 9 as planned as the district falls in line with restaurant and retail opening throughout the state of California. The resort will continue to follow safety protocol to ensure the safety of guests visiting as well as the cast members working.
