The Disney Cruise Line has canceled all remaining 2020 cruises to Alaska as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The news came from the Disney Cruise Line website.
On May 29, 2020, the Canadian government extended its decision to not allow cruise ships to dock in Canadian ports through October 31, 2020. As a result, it is necessary for us to cancel Disney Wonder sailings scheduled to embark and/or debark in Vancouver through September 14, 2020. We are also evaluating the Disney Magic sailings scheduled to visit Canadian ports this October, but have not made changes to any itineraries at this time. Once a decision is made, we will reach out to Guests booked on these sailings.
The resulting cancelations of cruises through September 14th means that the Disney Wonder’s next scheduled cruise after opening would be from California to the Mexican Riviera. Here is a list of impacted sailings for the Disney Wonder:
- 8/3 – 7 Night Alaska
- 8/10 – 7 Night Alaska
- 8/17 – 7 Night Alaska
- 8/31 – 7 Night Alaska
- 9/7 – 7 Night Alaska
- 9/14 – 4 Night Pacific Coast from Vancouver to San Diego
Alaska sailings weren’t the only cruises impacted by the announcement on the Disney Cruise Line website, however. All other cruise departures have been suspended through July 27th. If nothing changes, that would put the Disney Dream back in service on August 1, the Disney Fantasy on August 2nd, and the Disney Magic back in service on August 5.
According to the Disney Cruise Line, “Guests booked on affected sailings will be offered the choice of a cruise credit to be used for a future sailing or a full refund. These Guests and travel agents will receive an email from Disney Cruise Line outlining details and next steps.”
At this time, it isn’t known when exactly all of the Disney Cruise Line ships will be returning to service. Before they do in American waters, the CDC will need to sign off on the health and safety of the ships. The Walt Disney World Resort is currently scheduled to begin opening its parks with a phased reopening starting on July 11th. No other global resorts, beyond Shanghai Disney Resort which is already opened, have had any reopening announcements at this time. It is generally accepted that the Disney Cruise Line will be welcome guests again after the reopening of the Disney parks.
