Shanghai Disneyland Has Fantasmic Reopening! [updated]

Shanghai Disneyland has reopened in the most Fantasmic way. During a brief ceremony, Shanghai Disneyland reopened its gates approximately three months after closing them due to the coronavirus outbreak.

“We hope that today’s reopening can serve as a beacon of light across the globe, providing hope and inspiration for everyone, and can demonstrate that we can overcome any challenge together,” Joe Schott, president, and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort said during the reopening ceremony.

“Since the reopening of Disneytown, Wishing Star Park and Shanghai Disneyland Hotel in early March, we have been deeply moved by the encouragement from our guests and Disney fans,” said Schott. “Today, we are extremely pleased to reopen Shanghai Disneyland thanks to the unwavering efforts of our Cast Members and our community. Today’s celebrations will be remembered with joy, as we look forward to welcoming our guests back to this happy place.”

Schott was joined by 30 Disney characters and a band. It culminated with the band playing the Fantasmic theme song as streamers were shot into the air. Within minutes, 200 guests were welcomed into Shanghai Disneyland.

The reopening day was sold out within minutes of the ticket sales opening on Friday. This led to the park having lots of space for social distancing. The park restricted capacity to one-third of its 80,000 visitors. The first few days were also sold out. Guests visiting found that several shows and experiences were closed that wouldn’t accommodate social distancing as well as other experiences. There were also modified queues, viewing areas for experiences, and even attractions experiences were accommodated for safety and social distancing.
