In the last few weeks, The Walt Disney Company has taken many steps to help the general public stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. It began with closing the theme parks until it is safe to go back, then they announced that they would be donating all excess food to local food banks. Today, Disney Parks announced that they would be taking the steps to donate supplies to frontline healthcare workers that are helping fight this virus each and every day.
Many hospitals have been reporting that they do not have enough masks or personal protective equipment to provide for the workers. In response to this intense need, Disney Parks has donated 150,000 rain ponchos to MedShare, an aid organization that helps distribute supplies to those in need. Ponchos were discovered by nurses as a way to help prolong the use of their PPE. Disney has also donated 100,000 N95 masks and will continue to look for ways to donate supplies to those in need.
Earlier this week, executive chairman of the Walt Disney Company, Bob Iger donated $500K that would go directly to Los Angeles City Fund and help support healthcare workers. While Disney has only been closed for a few weeks, they have currently donated nearly $3M in in-kind donations.
