This week, Walt Disney World announced that they would be suspending normal operations through the end of March. This move was a preventative measure to keep cast members and guests healthy as fear of COVID-19 continues to grow. As part of their care for the Central Florida community, Walt Disney World Resort has announced that they will be donating all excess food to Second Harvest Food Bank throughout March.
In 1991, Walt Disney World founded the Disney Harvest program that initiated food donation of excess food inventory like fresh salads, greens, and cooked hot items. All the excess and unserved food items go directly to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. In the last year alone, the Disney Harvest Program provided over one million meals to families in need across Central Florida!
During these park closures, the Disneyland Resort is also donating the excess food and helping give back to the community of Southern California. These closures of the Disney theme parks are unprecedented, as every Disney Resort around the world is currently closed. While many guests are disappointed that they won’t be able to visit the magical spots, this measure is crucial in keeping guests and cast members healthy and will ensure that they are able to make magic when March ends!
