Disneyland Resort to Close Parks and Hotels Through the End of March Due to COVID-19

Today, Disneyland Resort has officially announced that they will be closing the parks and hotels on property until the end of the month. This comes after California declared a ban on large gatherings of groups over 250 people. Though Governor Newsom declared Disneyland exempt from this ban, and though there have been no guests diagnosed with COVID-19, the park has taken the preventative measure to close for 3 weeks.

This was a decision that surprised many Disney fans, though it is not unexpected. Through the fear of the spread of COVID-19, we have seen the Walt Disney Company cease operations at Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Tokyo Disneyland Resorts. While Shanghai has begun a phased reopening, we have seen Tokyo prolong their closure for the safety of guests.

Disneyland Resort will officially cease operations of Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park beginning the morning of Saturday, March 14. The hotels on the Disneyland Resort property will cease operation beginning Monday, March 16 to give guests time to get travel plans in order. While the parks and hotels will be ceasing operation through the end of March, Downtown Disney will remain open. While Disney closes for the rest of the month, Cast Members will continue to be paid.
