Disney’s Hollywood Studios rolled out the red carpet Tuesday night for two very special mice, as well as other Disney friends and invited guests to celebrate the opening of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway with a special dedication ceremony.
“Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a crowning achievement in the multiyear transformation of Disney’s Hollywood Studios,” said Walt Disney World Resort President Josh D’Amaro, who participated in the ceremony along with Mickey, Minnie and lots of other Disney pals. “What was once a theme park that took you behind the scenes, now puts you in the center of your favorite stories.”
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is the first ride-through attraction in Disney history starring Mickey and Minnie. We are invited inside the park’s re-creation of the Chinese Theatre to see the premiere of “Perfect Picnic,” a new “Mickey Mouse” cartoon short written by Walt Disney Imagineering and produced by Disney Television Animation.
Through some Disney magic, you are taken through the movie screen and into the “Mickey Mouse” cartoon world, where “mouse rules apply” and anything can – and does! – happen. Engineer Goofy invites you aboard Runnamuck Railroad to join Mickey and Minnie on their search for the perfect picnic spot in Runnamuck Park. And with Goofy at the controls, what could possibly go wrong?
Also premiering is “Vacation Fun” – An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie at the Mickey Shorts Theater. You can also meet Mickey and Minnie throughout the day at the Red Carpet Dreams meet & greet. And don’t forget to wrap up your day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios with “Fantasmic!” in the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater. So now your day is full of mouse fun because “Mouse Rules Apply!”
This morning, guests arrived early to not only hope for a boarding group for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, but to also be among the first guests to experience Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Wait times before the park even opened exceeded the 2 hour mark, and at one point, the estimated wait time was 5 hours! FastPass+ is available for this attraction, but slots for opening day went fairly quickly a couple weeks ago when it officially opened for booking.
Guest reaction to the new family friendly attraction has been very positive, and many are hoping to ride a few times to see if they can spot any Easter eggs. There are hidden Mickeys, a tribute to The Great Movie Ride, and other fun things found throughout the attraction.
The opening of this attraction also concludes a multi-year transformation for Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It began in Summer 2018 with the addition of Toy Story Land, and continued in August 2019 with the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
All of this hard work could not be accomplished without the great team effort from everyone at Walt Disney Imagineering to Cast Members at Walt Disney World, and especially Disney’s Hollywood Studios. And as they say – “that’s a wrap!”
