September Date For 30th CHOC Walk in the Park Announced!

The CHOC Walk in the Park is an annual walk through the Disneyland Resort that has one very important goal: to raise funds for health care programs, education and research for Southern California’s kids. This yearly tradition has supporters getting up at the crack of dawn to walk around the Disneyland Resort to support this cause. Each year, thousands of people arrive at Disneyland before dawn to do just this.

Today, the date for the 2020 CHOC Walk in the Park was announced. It will be taking place on Sunday September 13, 2020. This marks a new weekend for the CHOC Walk. For many years it took place in October before moving recently to a weekend in August. This year it will take place on the second Sunday in September.

The CHOC Walk in the Park finds its origins on November 10, 1990. On this date, staff and patients moved from the original Children’s Hospital of Orange County built in 1964 to a new six story building. During the course of this move, nearly 1,000 men, women, and children walked past the new hospital for what was the inaugural CHOC Walk. This first CHOC Walk stretched nearly five miles as it started at Main Place Mall in Santa Ana, California and eventually made its way to the Disneyland parking lot.

By the third year, the CHOC Walk moved to South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, California. This would be its home for the next nine years. In 2002, the CHOC Walk moved to its current home at the Disneyland Resort. Since then, the CHOC Walk in the Park takes guests on a 5k stroll through the Happiest Place on Earth!

Over the course of its 30 year history, the CHOC Walk has raised over $35 million for CHOC Children’s and CHOC at Mission Hospital. DAPS MAGIC has been a part of these efforts for many years. Stay tuned to DAPS MAGIC throughout the year so you can learn how to participate in this very special CHOC Walk and join the DAPS MAGIC team.
