David Benioff and D.B. Weiss Exit Star Wars Project

The trilogy that was being created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss from Game of Thrones is a no go for now. After making a nine-picture deal with Netflix, the duo has stepped back from Star Wars to focus on Netflix.

Originally, their new trilogy was to begin in 2022. However, this will not be happening now. “We love Star Wars,” the pair said in a statement. “When George Lucas built it, he built us too. Getting to talk about Star Wars with him and the current Star Wars team was the thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything.”

Kathleen Kennedy left the door open to collaborating in the future at some point. She said in a statement, “David Benioff and Dan Weiss are incredible storytellers. We hope to include them in the journey forward when they are able to step away from their busy schedule to focus on Star Wars.”

While this does stop this Star Wars trilogy of movies, there is still a lot of other projects in the works. When Disney+ goes live on November 12th fans will get to see The Mandalorian. There are also series based around Obi-Wan Kenobi and Cassian Andor in the works for the streaming service. Star Wars: The Clone Wars will also be appearing next year on Disney+. In the movie realm, Kevin Feige is working on a film for Star Wars as well as what Rian Johnson is working on.
