Welcome back to the ‘Sunday Recap Report.’ It was yet another warm and humid Sunday at the Disneyland Resort. (This seems to be the pattern the last several Sundays.)
I got to Disneyland shortly afternoon, and headed towards Tomorrowland where Jenny was as she had gone to AP Corner. As I headed up Main Street, our friend Jeff caught up with me. We waited for Jenny and then headed to Coke Corner for a snack. Both Jenny and I mobile ordered and got a button exclusively for Annual Passholders who order food via the Disneyland App. I got a Mickey pretzel with cheese and a soda, while Jenny got the Firefly Chips.
We soon met up with Mr. DAPs, Caitie, and Luke. We headed to Market House Starbucks for some coffee. I got a Pumpkin Spice Latte with whipped cream. After that, we headed back to Coke Corner to see the Dapper Dans. They were performing at the piano, and it’s always fun to see them.
Next we headed to the Castle for some photos, but along the way caught the Disneyland Band as they headed backstage. They were performing ‘Colonel Hathi’s March’ from’The Jungle Book.’ I had never heard them play that before, so it was definitely a nice treat!
Of course, we made our way into Galaxy’s Edge. We didn’t stay very long, but Caitie was definitely having some fun testing out camera angles with her new iPhone 11 Pro. In fact, this week’s vlog was filmed entirely on the iPhone 11 Pro!
After some time in Batuu, we headed to Disney California Adventure as it was going to close at 6pm for the ‘Oogie Boogie Bash.’ We soon found ourselves just outside of Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout. The flooring in the area across the entrance as well as the FastPass distribution area had recently been redone. The redone flooring also debunks rumors that the trolley track was going to be moved in the opposite direction.
We then headed to one of our favorite Sunday relaxation spots – Sonoma Terrace. Since it was quite warm and humid, we sat here enjoying some snacks and good company. It was now getting closer to 5pm so we had roughly an hour before the ‘Oogie Boogie Bash’ would begin so we headed towards Paradise Garden Grill for dinner. I got the ‘tacos de estilo callejero,’ which are three sirloin beef tacos with pickled vegetables, and a side of rice and black beans. I enjoyed the tacos as you get plenty of meat in them. This dish is $12.99, and discounts apply. You can also Mobile Order this meal on the Disneyland App.
Shortly before 6pm, we finished dinner and started to make our way towards the exit of the Park. As we made our way out, we heard the music change and it started with ‘This Is Halloween.’ We also saw Cast Members checking for wristbands so that those who were attending the party could be let into areas that were being cleared of non-party guests. As we made our way towards Buena Vista Street, we noticed a particular duck dressed in his Kingdom Hearts costume heading towards his meet & greet location. And yes, Donald and Goofy both make appearances during the ‘Oogie Boogie Bash’ so make sure to see them if you will be attending a party this season.
And because it was National Ice Cream Cone Day, we headed towards Downtown Disney. And on one way there, we saw some planters with pumpkins of many colors. Then we headed to Salt & Straw. They have the best ice cream on Resort property because you can get unique flavors. There are always at least three ‘Flavors of the Month.’ This month, the flavors were created by 4th graders. Salt & Straw employees took their creations and fixed them up a bit. The descriptions and flavor names were written word for word, typos and all! The three flavors created this month are ‘Magical Unicorn-Ice-Cream,’ ‘Lady Noir,’ and ‘Forzen Prezall.’
After Salt & Straw, Luke headed home, and we made our way back to Disneyland. I had seen the windows outside of World of Disney, and since they look better at night, I stopped to get some photos. There is some animation on some of the windows, which is fun!
We were now back at Disneyland, and got a FastPass for Star Tours – The Adventures Continue. While we waited for our time, we caught a little bit of the Villains Dance Party happening at Galactic Grill. Maleficent and the Evil Queen were taking part in the festivities, and as we headed to Star Tours, Captain James Hook and Smee were making their way to the party.
We were now at Star Tours, and waited about 10 minutes for our Starspeeder. I hadn’t been on Star Tours in quiet awhile. It was fun, and our mission took us in and around Batuu and other galaxies, until we finally landed in Batuu. Every ride is random so you never know where you are going to go.
After Star Tours, we headed to Frontierland to check out the Halloween Tree and the Día de Los Muertos area in Zocalo Park. The Halloween Tree is based off of Ray Bradbury’s 1972 fantasy novel ‘The Halloween Tree.’ It was dedicated at Disneyland for Halloween Time on October 31, 207 with Ray Bradbury in attendance. You can see it all day, but it comes to life at night when it’s lit up.
We then made our way to New Orleans Square for some exterior photos of Haunted Mansion Holiday. It was now around 8:30pm, and the day was catching up to us. So after some more photos of the Mickey Pumpkin in Town Square and the Main Street Train Station, we headed out of Disneyland.
