Guests visiting Disney California Adventure today were treated to a soft opening of Tale of the Lion King. This show is scheduled to begin its summer of performances on June 7th. This is an outdoor musical production that retells the story of Disney’s The Lion King.
Tale of The Lion King tells the story of The Lion King with a musical narrator and performers portraying the key roles of the story. The story is about Simba, a young lion cub, who is destined to be the king of Pride Rock someday. As a cub, his father Mufasa shares that someday his time will end and it will be Simba’s time to rule. However, after Mufasa’s brother Scar causes an accident that leads to the death of Mufasa while blaming Simba, Simba runs away. Eventually, he is found by his childhood friend Nala who persuades him to return (along with the help of the memory/ghost of Mufasa) to Pride Rock and claim his rightful place as king. This version of the story condenses the story beautifully. It recreates famous moments from the story along with portions of the songs. The entire show runs approximately 24 minutes long.
