Disney to Assume Complete Control of Hulu after Deal with Comcast

Effective immediately, Disney has total operational control of the Hulu streaming service. Today, Disney and Comcast announced that they reached a deal, that gives Disney total control of the platform. Within five years, Comcast has agreed to sell its stake to Disney for at least $5.8 billion.

With the new deal, Comcast’s NBCUniversal will license content to Hulu through 2024. Though, with the deal, Comcast can start pulling exclusive content from the streaming service as soon as next year. By 2022 NBCUniversal will have the right to pull most of their content-licensing agreements.

All of this comes when Disney acquired 60% of the streaming service when they reached a deal with Fox earlier this year. Since then, AT&T sold its 9.5% stake in the company to Disney and Comcast. This final 30% makes Disney the sole operator.

Of course, Disney plans to do things with Hulu. They announced earlier this year that they would be putting some more adult Marvel television programs onto the streaming service. This could be a trend with titles that Disney doesn’t feel comfortable releasing onto its Disney+ Streaming Service, as they want to maintain wholesome family entertainment.

It is only a matter of time before we see changes coming to our entertainment! Between acquiring Fox and now complete control of Hulu, it is sure to be an interesting time for Disney fans!
