Mickey’s Toontown is a land found behind Fantasyland at Disneyland. There is also one at Tokyo Disneyland called simply Toontown. The land is was inspired by Toontown in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? It is meant to recreate the world that Mickey Mouse and the gang live in. It generally closes early on evenings with fireworks.
History of Mickey’s Toontown
The origin of Mickey’s Toontown came from the success of Roger Rabbit. Out of this, multiple attraction designs were thought up for Disney theme parks. It was thought that at Disneyland Roger Rabbit would find his home in a new area called Hollywoodland behind Main Street, USA. Around the same time at the Magic Kingdom in Florida, a new area was being developed for Mickey’s 60th birthday called Mickey’s Birthdayland. Around this time, it was thought that attractions based on the characters from Roger Rabbit would end up in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. However, all these ideas were scrapped when Euro Disney had financial difficulties.
What did come out of these cutbacks were new ideas. The concepts of Mickey’s Birthdayland and Hollywoodland were combined to create Mickey’s Toontown. This would open at Disneyland in its current location on January 24, 1993. In 1996, an exact replica opened at Tokyo Disneyland. Disneyland Paris features a similar concept in an area called Toon Studios that is found in the Walt Disney Studios Park.
About Mickey’s Toontown
Currently, there are eight attractions featured at Mickey’s Toontown. This includes the following:
- Chip ‘n Dale Treehouse
- Disneyland Railroad
- Donald’s Boat
- Gadget’s Go Coaster
- Goofy’s Playhouse
- Mickey’s House and Meet Mickey
- Minnie’s House
- Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin
In the future, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will be arriving in Mickey’s Toontown in 2022. In the past, there was also Chip ‘n Dale’s Acorn Pit, Goofy’s Bounce House (now Goofy’s Playhouse), and also the Jolly Trolley. There are also three places to get food and refreshments. These are:
- Daisy’s Diner
- Pluto’s Dog House
- Clarabelle’s Frozen Yogurt
There is also a store that is considered two stores that are the Gag Factory and also Toontown Five and Dime. The entire area is filled with fun (and funny) interactive elements. They are meant to recreate the world that is lived in my toons. They also make for some fun photo locations!
