Project Stardust Aims to Create More Magic Across the Disneyland Resort Throughout the Year

When Disneyland Park opened in 1955, there was a grand castle that stood as the gateway to Fantasyland. This castle, covered with pink and blue brick with gold accent, was a nod to the upcoming film Sleeping Beauty that would open in 1959. For the last 60 years, the castle has remained and continued to tell the story of magic and princesses to children everywhere.

Though the castle has been refreshed many times over the years, the castle has stayed the same. You may have noticed that Sleeping Beauty Castle is under refurbishment once again. This time, it’s a part of the bigger Project Stardust. This summer will mark the opening of the historic Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and you may see a lot of change happening around the park!

Project Stardust has already begun to create magic around the resort! On Main Street, U.S.A, curbs are being enhanced with slow inclines to help improve access when guests first enter. Last year, new brickwork was added and the track for the horsedrawn cars was completely replaced for the first time ever. In Fantasyland, redesigned guest queues for Matterhorn Bobsleds, “it’s a small world” and Dumbo the Flying Elephant have improved guest access and comfort, while Tropical Hideaway in Adventureland now welcomes guests to a brand new area.

In addition to the clear renovations, Disneyland has also started to widen walkways in order to allow greater guest flow and strollers! Along with the walkways, Disneyland will also have more seating than ever when Project Stardust is finished! This will mean that there will be plenty of opportunities to put up your feet and relax.
