Disney+ is going to be a large part of the future for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In a recent interview with Variety, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that the MCU would be headed to new Disney streaming service.
“When we announced ten movies and people asked ‘Well what about these other things?’ the previous stance would be ‘We only have a certain number of slots to make movies per year.’ That’s still true but we have another outlet that I think will be very unique and very special.”
Fiege explained that having the MCU on Disney+ will give Marvel more opportunities to tell more stories about more characters, in more places.
“We are going to tell stories for the streaming service that we wouldn’t be able to tell in a theatrical experience — a longer-form narrative, that’s what comics are, it’s about as longform a narrative as exists. But also maintaining that theatrical experience, which is our bread and butter, and the lines around the block, if you’re lucky.”
There has been a lot of chatter about what could be coming to Disney+ from Marvel. Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist were all recently canceled by Netflix. There has been speculation that these shows could someday end up on Disney+. Already an announcement has been made that Loki and Scarlet Witch are on the way to Disney+.
Disney+, the Disney streaming service, is set to arrive in homes sometime late in 2019. When it does there will be both original content and existing content from The Walt Disney Company streaming on it. This includes some Disney classics, Star Wars, Marvel, and more!
