Knott’s Berry Farm Will Have New Watery Thrills and Surprises With Calico River Rapids in Summer 2019

Knott’s Berry Farm has announced Calico River Rapids, which will be a new refurbishment of the previous Bigfoot River Rapids.  The attraction has been nestled in the Wilderness area of the park, right next to Mystery Lodge.  Currently closed and drained, the ride will reopen with new effects and surprises in the summer of 2019.  Knott’s says the ride will have new show scenes, animatronics, and dynamic water effects.  From the concept art one animatronic looks to be of a Bigfoot that will be located in a cavern.  It also appears that guests not riding will be able to interact with riding guests via water explosions activated from TNT plungers.  Calico River Rapids will have a story that connects it to the Ghost Town area of the park, which is named Calico.

Bigfoot Rapids opened in 1987 and has thrilled guests ever since.  It being over 30 years old it was time to refurbish and renovate.  It’s exciting to see a story come to the ride, and some fresh scenes and animatronics.  This will certainly be a wonderful and fun addition to the park.  It looks like it will have some great family friendly thrills.  No opening date has been announced yet, but we will have information as it comes to us.
