Sunday Spotlight: Festival of The Lion King

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a great place to go for entertainment. Wandering around the park, there is a variety of different entertainment offerings from around the globe. There is both atmosphere entertainment and also stage shows.

One of the stage shows that is a favorite when we visit Walt Disney World is the Festival of The Lion King in the Harambe Theater. It opened originally in 1998 in Camp Minnie-Mickey. However, due to the construction of Pandora – The World of Avatar, it was moved to it’s current location in the Africa section of the park in 2014.

The Festival of The Lion King tells the story of The Lion King through song, dance, puppetry, and some fun effects. As guests enter the theater, they are placed in one of four seating areas around the outside of the stage in the middle. In each area, the guests become a part of an animal family. The for animals represented are Lions, Elephants, Warthogs, and Giraffe. This is a fun interactive element that adds to the show.

The story is told mainly through the musical highlights of both the movie and Broadway show of the same name. It is a show that is full of beauty, heart, and even some comedy. Definitely catch it the next time you are at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
