Disney Updates Movie Release Schedule Moving Mary Poppins Returns Forward and Delaying Indiana Jones 5

Disney has released a new movie release schedule for the next few years. This schedule has moved one highly anticipated movie forward, and others back.

The new Mary Poppins movie, Mary Poppins Returns, will be moving up a week now. Originally scheduled to be released for Christmas Day, it is now being released on Wednesday, December 19th. Mary Poppins Returns stars Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins. She will be joined by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer and Julie Walters, along with Colin Firth and Meryl Streep. Dick Van Dyke will be appearing as Mr. Dawes Jr., the chairman of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank,  now run by William Weatherall Wilkins (Firth). Angela Lansbury will play the Balloon Lady, a character from the original books by P.L. Travers.

Indiana Jones 5, starring Harrison Ford, has been pushed back one year. Previously, it had been scheduled to be released on July 10, 2020. Now, it is slated to hit theaters on July 9, 2021. Steven Spielberg will once again be directing Harrison Ford when he dons the hat and coat for what is expected to be the last time.

Dwayne Johnson’s Jungle Cruise movie has been delayed with the new schedule. It will now be cruising into theaters on October 11, 2019. This was a previously “untitled live-action movie” and was slated for October 4, 2019. Joining Johnson will be Emily Blunt, Jack Whitehall, Paul Giamatti, Edgar Ramirez, and Jesse Plemons. This is another movie based on a Disney attraction.

Maleficent II, starring Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning will be coming to theaters on May 29, 2020.  This will continue the story of Maleficent and Aurora started in the first film. The two lead characters will be joined by Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein and Robert Lindsay. The movie will be directed by Joachim Rønning who directed Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

The final updates are a bit unknown. One untitled Disney live-action film has moved from July 9, 2021 to July 30, 2021. A Marvel Studios untitled live-action film moved up from July 30, 2021 to February 12, 2021. There were two other Disney live-action films that were completely removed from the release schedule. They were originally scheduled to be released on November 8, 2019 and February 21, 2021.
