Avengers: Infinity War Easter Eggs & Comic References

Avengers: Infinity War is here!  And if you haven’t seen it, do not read any further.  This is a warning because things will be spoiled.  So spoiled.  Go see the movie and then read this.  Please.

Ok, for those that don’t care about the warning or have seen the movie already, here are some easter eggs to connect to the comics…

Iron Man Armor

Iron Man’s armor keeps evolving.  But, this film’s version is one of the most famous in comics.  Tony Stark explains that it’s made of nanotech, and it basically comes out of his chest plate and forms around him.  The look and nanotech elude to what is known as the Extremis armor in the comics.  Extremis was something in Iron Man 3.  The armor in the comics comes along in this story and is basically the same idea.  It lasts quite a while in the comics too.

Iron Spider

Speaking of armor, another tech suit Stark gives to Peter Parker is the infamous Iron Spider costume.  The comics has Spider-Man don the nanotech during Civil War, and it has the interesting extra limbs for him to use.  It’s all red in Civil War, but the movie keeps the red and blue.

Drax and Mantis Bend Reality

Thanos attacks the Guardians of the Galaxy at Knowhere, and Mantis and Drax receive the brunt of it.  The villain uses the reality stone to do some unique attacks to the two.  The attacks are in reference to attacks done in the Infinity Gauntlet story for which the movie is semi-based on.

Thor’s New Hammer

Thor’s hammer has two fun comic references.  One is that the name is for Beta Ray Bill’s hammer.  Who’s Beta Ray Bill?  He’s sort of another Thor but is very alien looking compared to the humanoid Asgardian.  The second reference is that the new hammer is very similar to the Ultimate Marvel’s Thor.  The Ultimate universe is an alternate universe that Marvel used to reboot the comics without messing with the ongoing stories.  So, they were able to have a new Mjolnir without messing with the original.  The movies can do whatever they want and they did, giving Thor this new hammer ax thing.

Vision’s Lack of Pigment

At the end of the film, Vision gets his Infinity Stone stripped from him, and it causes the android to lose color throughout.  It may be a stretch, but it could point to the time that Vision was all white colored in the comics.  That iteration of Vision was also stripped of emotion.  It may be something else the movie was pointing to in explaining that he needed to have his synapses totally melded together before the stone was removed.  We may see an emotion-less Vision with a more grey tone to him in the next film.

Snap of the Fingers

There are two references to Thanos snapping his fingers.  One is Gamora demonstrating it.  The other is Thanos actually doing it.  Infinity Gauntlet had Thanos do this to wipe out half of the population of the universe, which is exactly what happens at the end of Avengers: Infinity War.  It’s a nice nod to the famous scene of the comic.

Those are Easter Eggs I found.  Did you see any others?  Let us know in the comments below, and also tell us what you thought of the movie!
