The multi-talented Chip Zdarsky exclusively joins the House of Ideas and releases two new Annuals this June!
New York, NY—March 14, 2018—Marvel Entertainment is excited to announce that writer Chip Zdarsky will continue to bring his distinctive storytelling and ideas to Marvel in an exclusive agreement.
One of the most versatile creators in the comic industry, Zdarsky made his mark at Marvel with his series debut of Howard The Duck, featuring art by Joe Quinones. The series found sales acclaim debuting as the seventh best-selling comic in March 2015, and critical acclaim thanks to Zdarsky’s ability to create a unique new world filled with memorable and fan-favorite guest stars. Last February, Zdarsky began helming Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man with Adam Kubert, his take on the timeless character – quirky but also full of heart – propelling the series to a chart-topping debut as the best-selling comic book of June.
In 2017, a sketch from Zdarsky on the back of Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man inspired 20 “How To Draw” variant covers, each one featuring advice on how to draw some of Marvel’s most recognizable characters – all infused with Zdarsky’s trademark creativity and humor. Zdarsky continues to display his talents as the current writer of Marvel 2-In-One, where his emotional and skillfully told stories about Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm have led Vulture to claim that “history will show that the book stood on its own as a funny and empathic story about legacy, grief, and (this being Zdarsky) zingers.”
Zdarsky’s resume at Marvel includes Star-Lord as well as featured stories in books such as The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Civil War II: Choosing Sides, and Not Brand Ecch. This June, Zdarsky will continue to share new stories of classic Marvel characters, teaming up with Mike Allred for Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man Annual #1 and Declan Shalvey for Marvel 2-In-1 Annual #1. Marvel and Stitcher launch first scripted podcast, ‘Wolverine: The Long Night’
On its debut, the show has been called “compelling” and “a bold experiment” in early reviews.
NEW YORK CITY – March 12, 2018 – Marvel and top podcast listening service and content network Stitcher (“Heaven’s Gate,” “Katie Couric,” “The Paris Review”) released the first two episodes of “Wolverine: The Long Night,” Marvel’s highly anticipated first-ever scripted podcast exclusively on Stitcher Premium today. The 10-episode series will continue to air weekly on Stitcher Premium and see a wide release across allpodcast platforms in fall 2018.
Early praise for the show highlights its “shrewd sound design” and “clear and compelling” action. Vulture.com calls it “a bold experiment for Marvel,” and Wired says “sound design has never mattered more” and that the show successfully “manages to place the listener truly within the story…”
The “Wolverine: The Long Night” story is a captivating hybrid of mystery and the larger-scale fantasy of the Marvel Universe. It follows agents SallyPierce (Celia Keenan-Bolger) and Tad Marshall (Ato Essandoh) as they arrive in the fictional town of Burns, Alaska, to investigate a series ofmurders and quickly discover the town lives in fear of a serial killer. The agents team up with deputy Bobby Reid (Andrew Keenan-Bolger) toinvestigate their main suspect, Logan (Richard Armitage). Their search leads them on a fox hunt through the mysterious and corrupt town.
“This is a story about deception, unreliability, identity, atonement, and man in the wild and the wild in man,” said Ben Percy (“The Wilding,” “Red Moon”), show writer and award-winning comic book author. “Every character has a secret. Every scene has a question mark at the end of it. And I can’t wait for you to hear the phenomenal actors who have brought the story to life — and the next-level sound design that make this audio drama like nothing you’ve ever heard. SNIKT!”
In addition to Percy, Stitcher and Marvel have assembled a production team of veterans from both the comic world and podcasting industry, including director Brendan Baker (formerly a producer for Radiotopia’s “Love & Radio”), and sound designer Chloe Prasinos (formerly a producer forGimlet’s “Reply All”). The series is produced by Daniel Fink of Marvel and Jenny Radelet of Stitcher.
“It’s been an honor to work with Marvel, Stitcher, and our entire cast and production crew to bring Wolverine’s story into audio,” said Baker. “I’m so proud of what we’ve made together, and can’t wait to finally share it—with Marvel fans and podcast fans alike. The process behind the making of “Wolverine: The Long Night” brings Marvel’s storytelling expertise into the podcasting world, breaking new ground for the medium. To provide listeners a sense of immersion into the story, outdoor scenes were recorded in realistic-sounding locationsincluding forests and a cabin. In the studio, actors were recorded in an ambisonic — or fully surround-sound — environment, allowing them to move,interact with one another and fully inhabit their characters.
