Disney’s Top Choice for The Little Mermaid Director: Rob Marshall

Rob Marshall is a popular director around Walt Disney Studios. Recently he direct Mary Poppins Returns but could one of his next projects be the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid? According to Deadline, Marshall is their number one choice to direct this film. It will feature new songs by Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken and a script by Jane Goldman.

It is expected that Rob Marshall has already been offered this movie. He should be making a decision after the holidays. If he chooses to take this project (as he is expected to do), he would begin work on it sometime in the new year.

Rob Marshall has quite the background with filming musicals that includes Into the Woods, Chicago, Roger’s and Hammerstein’s Cinderella and Victor/Victoria to name a few.  He has also directed several other films for the big screen that includes Memoirs of a Geisha and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
