Disney Hits $6 Billion at the Box Office… Again!

The Walt Disney Company has hit $6 billion at the box office again this year. This makes it the only company to do so twice. This milestone was reached with a nice push from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Last year, Disney set the record of hitting $6 billion and became the first company to do so at the box office. It ended the year with $7.6 billion at the global box office. Disney also has surpassed the $5 billion mark for three years now and is the only company to do that as well.

Disney has had three top domestic box office openers this year. These include the live-action re-imagining of Beauty and the Beast, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and finally Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Beauty and the Beast brought in $174.8 million on its opening weekend, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 had an opening weekend of $146.5 million, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi opened with $220 million. It has now garnered an impressive $650 million globally as of Friday.

The future of Disney’s global box office accomplishments should continue to get better and better. With the announced acquisition of 21st Century Fox, Disney will continue to grow its presences at the movies.
