Colin Trevorrow Out as Director of Star Wars: Episode IX

Today Lucasfilm released a statement on StarWars.com that Colin Trevorrow is no longer directing Star Wars: Episode IX.

Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.

This announcement marks the fourth director change in the Star Wars galaxy in recent years. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story had Tony Gilroy picking up the baton from Gareth Edwards for reshoots. Josh Trank was taken off of an untitled Star Wars anthology film after his disturbing behavior on Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot. Most recently Phil Lord and Chris Miller were taken off of the Han Solo stand-alone film.

Trevorrow was first rumored to be in trouble as the director after the disappointing results of The Book of Henry. There are rumored to be script issues between Trevorrow and the Star Wars team. In August Jack Thorne was tapped to do rewrites after Trevorrow had taken several stabs at it. According to numerous outlets, the relationship between Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy led to his ultimate dismissal.

With Colin Trevorrow no longer at the helm of Star Wars: Episode IX, who do you think should be tapped to replace him? Let us know in the comments.
