As you can tell from the countdown, we aren’t going in chronological order for leading up to the 60th. These are some of the more personal ones for me to lead up to the 60th. Today is covering a special one for me, but we’ll get to why in a bit.
It was 5 years after the huge 50th Anniversary celebration. Would Disneyland top it just after 5 years? Would they do anything at all? There were questions on a lot of Disney fans’ minds, but there wasn’t a disappointment that July 17, 2010.
Upon entering either park, special 55th anniversary maps were handed out. Inside the map were little Mickey icons to indicate opening day attractions still around. A special ceremony was held at the Disneyland Railroad Station on Main Street, with the Disneyland Band, and a small group of singing kids. In traditional fashion, the day was marked by the rebroadcast of the opening day speech. Then, a flash mob of characters spread out in Town Square, dancing to A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes.
But, like I said, there was a special reason why this is one of my favorites. It was where I met Mr. Daps and started this exciting and sometimes odd adventure with Dapsmagic.com. I point that out not to mark something out of myself but to say that you never know what Disneyland has in store for you. It’s a place that is supposed to bring about memories and hold memories for all. Its anniversary reminds me of what can happen, that you end up meeting great friends and continue to do so. It’s not just a magical place, but a friendly place!
