Marvel Reveals New Agents of SHIELD Cast Member: Meet Agent May's Ex-Husband

Blair Underwood Joins Agents of SHIELD Cast

She has referenced him and now fans of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will get to meet him. That’s right, Agent May’s ex-husband will be joining the show. Played by Blair Underwood, Doctor Andrew Garner (PhD) is a neurologist and forensic psychologist who is a specialist in working with gifted individuals on the Index. Seeing that the gifteds are clearly going to become a much bigger part of the show after the winter break, this makes a lot of sense that he would be appearing now.

Here is the release that Marvel shared regarding Underwood’s casting:

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” has enlisted Blair Underwood for a tour of duty when the series returns this spring!

Underwood will play Doctor Andrew Garner, PhD, Agent May’s ex-husband and a Neurologist and Forensic Psychologist who has specialized in working with gifted individuals on the Index before.

“With Blair, we knew we’d found someone to perfectly complement May’s stoic personality,” said Executive Producer and Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb. “Fans have wondered about her ex-husband since she first referenced him, and Blair has the presence and charm to stand up to our Agent Melinda May.”

Underwood’s first major role came as Jonathan Rollins in “L.A. Law,” a character he played for seven seasons of the series’ run. Since then, he’s also starred in “In Treatment,” “Sex and the City,” “The Event,” “Dirty Sexy Money,” and many other films and TV series. He has earned two Golden Globe nominations for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for TV for his roles in “L.A. Law” and “In Treatment.”
