Swing into Spring is a new season developed by Disneyland Paris. At first, it was supposed to open for the first time in 2015 but Philippe Gas, current CEO of Euro Disney SCA, decided late December to accelerate its development so it can start this year instead. Taking place since April 5th and until June 22nd and already confirmed for next year, this season brings music, flowers and new entertainment into Disneyland Park.
At the moment you get through the gates of Disneyland Park, you are welcomed by the Main Street Station decorated with Disney Characters, garlands of flowers and a huge daisy at the center. If you are lucky, you can even Meet Russel (from Up) there. Town Square and the Gazebo are decorated with Mary Poppins, Bert, Jane and Michael fake-topiaries and penguins statues. At the entrance of Liberty Arcade you can Meet Minnie and/or Duffy wearing their spring outfit.
Welcome to Spring is a happening performed 5 to 6 times a day at Town Square’s Gazebo. 16 Main Street Citizens gather to celebrate the arrival of the spring. The show uses well-known songs including “I’m Walking Right In The Middle of Main Street USA.”. Sometimes, between shows, they are even meeting guests and interacting with them. It is a true delight to see Main Street living once again.
At Casey Corner you can Meet & Greet Rapunzel with a giant backdrop created for the season. On this big green heart-shaped fake topiary, you can see the magic flower and Pascal from Tangled. Even if the line is open less than an hour, wait easily climb up to 2 hours. Central Plaza is decorated with four fake but beautiful topiaries all showing Disney baby animals. We can see characters from The Lion King, Bambi, The Aristocats and One Hundred and One Dalmatians.
Disney’s Spring Promenade is definitely the major event of the day. This 15-minute show/cavalcade/happening takes place on Castle Stage and Central Plaza, is played 4 times a day and needs more than 140 performers (more than the parade itself!). As a consequence it is impossible to see the whole show from one place and each one will see a different performance. Once the two orchestras are ready, the music starts and 90 dancers invades Central Plaza and the Castle Stage Area while 30 characters arrive from Fantasyland, process like a cavalcade through Castle Stage, circle Central Plaza and makes its way back to Fantasyland. Theme music is from Elvis Presley’s “Spring Fever” and the others are from the movie “Mary Poppins”. Each of them has been orchestrated to fit the show. The show is a success as at the end of each performance, the whole area is filled with people smiling, dancing, singing, clapping,…
Disney Village is also celebrating spring with few topiaries and kiosks selling garden tools and food.
Swing into Spring season is bringing the life the Disneyland Park had lost during its 20th anniversary. I can’t wait to see what the next spring season will look like. I think we can already expect more decorations inside the park. We can also note that Disneyland Paris is currently working on a summer season scheduled to open summer 2015.
