Geek Eats- Sriracha Love

SrirachaGreetings Foodies! Welcome to the latest Geek Eats! Today I want to discuss a topic that is near and dear to my heart. That’s right; I want to discuss my favorite condiment, Sriracha! Now those who know me know that I love condiments. I will never just settle for just one salad dressing. I have no less than 4-5 in my refrigerator at any given moment due to my quest for the perfect flavor combination. Back to Sriracha though, until recently I was never a huge fan of spicy food but did enjoy a little Sriracha on my teriyaki chicken. Lately however, the addiction has grown.

For those of you living under a rock, Sriracha is a garlic chili sauce most prominently distributed by Huy Fong Foods (you know, Rooster Sauce? The bottle with the rooster on it?). There are other makers of the sauce but they are merely imposters. In my opinion they usually don’t get the garlic sriracha 2and vinegar right. Huy Fong Foods definitely has cornered the market in my opinion.

Unfortunately, the Sriracha giant has come under scrutiny over the past few months due to unpleasant odors and eye irritation caused by the plant. Rumors of Sriracha shortages sriracha 3popped up all around the news and internet. I will admit I was slightly panicked. Things are still undecided but it is looking optimistic for Huy Fong Foods.

In the past few years it has garnered almost a cult following. T-shirts, chips, popcorn, and the like can be found in stores like Target and Walmart. Everywhere you look there is something new with Sriracha. Recipes galore featuring Sriracha litter Pinterest and the web. Personally, I think it goes on everything! Below is a list of a few unconventional and not so unconventional things I think are fantastic with Sriracha:

  • Celery with Peanut Butter and Sriracha
  • Mac and Cheese
  • French Fries
  • Eggs
  • Crackers
  • Tortillas/Quesadillas

As you can see, Sriracha has many applications and uses. My next test for it will be to find or create a wing sauce that is heavily flavored with it. Well that about wraps up this edition of Geek Eats. On the next Geek Eats I’ll be discussing one of my favorite days of the week, Taco Tuesday! Stay tuned because you won’t want to miss it or the recipe I’ll be sharing!

Enjoy What You Eat!
