It’s a Small World Holiday Lighting Ceremony Honors Marine Corps. Staff Sergeant Mark Plummer

DAPs Magic Disney News – by Mr. DAPs

Marine Corps. Staff Sergeant Mark Plummer (Purple Heart in Fallujah, Iraq) was recognized by the Disneyland Resort and SYLVANIA and lit up “It’s a Small World” Holiday for the first time in the 2012 Holiday Season at the Disneyland Resort. Staff Sgt. Plummer was joined by his family for this magical moment in front of “It’s a Small World” as the sun went down over the Disneyland Resort. The ceremony was hosted by Disneyland Resort Ambassador Jolie Hales who was joined by representatives from SLYVANIA and Operation Homefront.

The ceremony began with Hales welcoming guests and brief comments by the representatives from SYLVANIA and Operation Homefront. Then, the Plummer family was brought in aboard the fire engine with Minnie Mouse hosting. The ceremony continued on towards the lighting of “It’s a Small World” and a present was offered that was supposed to have the star to put atop a Christmas tree on the stage and light the area. However, the Christmas present was empty. This led to Mickey Mouse saving the day and arriving with a freshly polished star which Staff Sgt.  Plummer placed atop the tree to light up “It’s a Small World” and officially start the holiday season at the Disneyland Resort.

The lighting of “It’s a Small World” ceremony was a short but touching ceremony that showcased how Disney knows how to make magic. This will be an experience that the family (the kids especially) of Staff Sgt. Plummer will definitely be talking about it. It was a sweet ceremony and Jolie Hales’s heart for people was clearly evident as she introduced and interacted with Staff Sgt. Plummer and his family. This was a little ceremony with a lot of heart.

The Holidays at the Disneyland Resort begin November 12 and run through January 6, 2013.
