POCAHONTAS & POCAHONTAS II: Journey to a New World – 2 Movie Collection – Blu-Ray Review by Mr. DAPs

DAPs Magic Disney News – by Mr. DAPs

POCAHONTAS & POCAHONTAS II: Journey to a New World – 2 Movie Collection tells the story of Pocahontas from the time John Smith comes to the new world and they fall in love amidst all odds.  In Journey to a New World, Pocahontas finds herself starting a romance with John Rolfe when she thinks that Smith is dead.

Picture and Sound:

POCAHONTAS & POCAHONTAS II: Journey to a New World – 2 Movie Collection both looked and sounded quite nice on this blu-ray. They do share a disc so there is always that risk that there is some degradation of quality. The only thing I would remotely complain about is in the sequel the colors didn’t seem as vibrant. The sound on both of these movies were also done well. There really are some beautiful moments in the first movie and it was nice to see that the quality was there to share them.

Bonus Features:

There were a few bonus features included with this collection. Here’s a look:

  • Pocahontas Audio Commentary – This offers a look behind the scenes of Pocahontas and also comes across as a bit defensive. It is definitely worth listening to though.
  • Drawing Inspiration: The Lost Story of Hiawatha – This offers a look at a Disney film that never came to be. It has storyboards, back story, and is a fun look at some Disney history.
  • Deleted Song: “If I Never Knew You” – This can be watched with or without commentary for this song that was deleted from Pocahontas.
  • The Music of Pocahontas – A look at the music of Pocahontas.
  • Deleted Scenes – Storyboards of 9 deleted scenes from Pocahontas.
  • Cartoon Short: Little Hiawatha A musical short from Walt Disney’s Silly Symphony series.
  • Disney’s Virtual Vault – Online only special features that weren’t available at the time of this review.

Overview:

POCAHONTAS & POCAHONTAS II: Journey to a New World – 2 Movie Collection is a collection that should probably be in your Disney collection. The first movie is much more enjoyable than the second one. There are some really good songs included and definitely some memorable characters. This isn’t my favorite set of movies released by the Walt Disney Company, especially the second, but they are worth seeing…if only for the movie. So, I will give this a hat nod (not quite a tip) and encourage you to add this to your blu ray collection.
