PASADENA, Calif., April 20, 2012 — In celebration of Earth Day, Disney Store recently introduced a new line of products to help families go “green.” On Earth Day, April 22, Disney Store guests who bring in five used plastic bags for recycling will receive a free re-usable shopping tote featuring the young chimpanzee, Oscar, from Disneynature’s new true life adventure film, “Chimpanzee”. Each item will also spotlight a conservation fact and actions guests can pledge through Disney Friends for Change. Guests can pledge atdisneystore.com/ffc and their actions will be posted on the Disney Store Times Square Spectacular in New York City. Also, for each adorable Oscar plush toy purchased through May 13, Disney Store will donate $1 to the Jane Goodall Institute through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund to protect chimpanzees today and tomorrow.

To further inspire its guests, Disney Store’s “Design By Me” contest on Facebook gives aspiring artists the chance to design a Mickey Mouse-inspired t-shirt. Artists have until April 22 to submit their designs on Disney Store’s Facebook page. A panel of Disney Store judges will select the top five styles for which fans may vote. The t-shirt design that receives the most votes will be sold at Disney Store locations nationwide and it will also be included as part of the Disney Store’s “Track My T” program featuring t-shirts made from organic cotton. The apparel contains a code allowing guests to follow their shirt’s creation from its very beginning as an organic cotton seed to its final stop at Disney Store (seewww.disneystore.com/trackmyt).

“Disney Store hopes to inspire families to make small changes to go green in their household, because with all of us working together we can have a big impact,” said Jim Fielding, president of Disney Store. “Earth Day is an opportunity for everyone to think about how we can help the environment.”

ABOUT THE MOVIE
Disneynature takes moviegoers deep into the forests of Africa with “Chimpanzee,” a new True Life Adventure introducing an adorable young chimpanzee named Oscar and his entertaining approach to life in a remarkable story of family bonds and individual triumph. Oscar’s playful curiosity and zest for discovery showcase the intelligence and ingenuity of some of the most extraordinary personalities in the animal kingdom. Working together, Oscar’s chimpanzee family — including his mom, Isha, and the group’s savvy leader, Freddy — navigates the complex territory of the forest. The world is a playground for little Oscar and his fellow young chimpanzees, who’d rather make mayhem than join their parents for an afternoon nap. But when Oscar’s family is confronted by a rival band of chimpanzees, he is left to fend for himself until a surprising ally steps in and changes his life forever. Directed by Alastair Fothergill (“African Cats” and “Earth”) and Mark Linfield (“Earth”), and narrated by Tim Allen (Disney·Pixar’s “Toy Story 3,” ABC’s “Last Man Standing”), “Chimpanzee” swings into theaters on April 20, 2012, just in time for Earth Day.
