Auspicious start to Chinese New Year with Hong Kong Disneyland’s Year of the Dragon Celebration

(Hong Kong, January 10, 2012) – With 2012 now underway, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is looking forward to continuing all the magical fun and excitement of 2011 – a year marked by momentous milestones such as the opening of Asia’s only Toy Story Land. And what better way to do that than to kick off the lucky Year of the Dragon with an incredible festive celebration? It’ll truly be an auspicious start to the New Year.
From January 13 to February 5, 2012, the Park will be celebrating the start of the Year of the Dragon with a host of wide range of seasonal programs for Guests, including the unique Rhythm of Life: Dragon Procession, which combines the contemporary and traditional styles in a magnificent tableau. Guests will also be able to get into the spirit of the season by taking a journey along the Lucky Trail, featuring eight scenic locations throughout the Park, with Disney characters waiting at each to bestow good fortune upon all. Mushu, from Mulan, will also be awaiting Guests and wishing everyone a Happy Chinese New Year alongside all the beloved Disney characters in their new Chinese New Year costumes. All that and much more – including a wide range of festive foods and souvenirs – are bound to give Guests an unforgettable Year of the Dragon Celebration.
Rhythm of Life: Dragon Procession
Dragon and lion dances are an essential part of any Chinese New Year celebration, but Guests are unlikely to have seen one quite like this before! In this truly elegant Dragon procession staged thrice daily, contemporary meets traditional and art comes to life as multiple performers, each holding unique puppets, dance to produce a magnificent tableau that transforms before everyone’s eyes. Fish, waves and clouds representing the elements of ocean, land and sky, all combine to join in the rhythm of life as the procession makes its way down Main Street, U.S.A.
Seek fortune on the Lucky Trail
Guests will be able to get their year off to an auspicious start by taking a journey along the Lucky Trail. At each of the trail’s eight scenic spots, Guests will be able to celebrate and take photos with Disney characters, who will each be wishing Guests luck in their own unique way. Don’t miss the final and luckiest spot of all along the trail at the castle forecourt – the Dragon Lantern centerpiece.
Mickey and friends all dressed up for Chinese New Year
Mickey, Minnie and all their friends will be dressed up in brand-new Chinese New Year costumes, ready to meet and greet Guests throughout the Park. Making special appearances during the Year of the Dragon Celebration will be Mushu fromMulan, who is eager to impart some special dragon wishes to all!
Furthermore, Guests who love to draw can visit the Animation Academy to display and hone their talent by learning how to draw Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck in their Chinese New Year costumes. Starting from the first day (January 23) of the Chinese New Year, Guests will be in for a special treat as they’ll receive Lai See (red packets) containing chocolate gold coins as they arrive at the Park.
Early Celebration for the Year of the Dragon throughout the city
In celebration of the Year of the Dragon, Hong Kong Disneyland has disseminated e-Fai Chun all across the city! Starting from January 16, using their smartphones to log onto the specified webpage, Guests will be able to collect e-Fai Chun featuring spring couplets at different districts throughout Hong Kong, which they can then share these lucky greetings with their friends and family via MMS, email or other instant messaging platforms. Be sure to visit various districts of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Disneyland and visit www.hkdisneyland.com/cny to collect all eight e-Fai Chun and ensure good luck in the Year of the Dragon!

Chinese New Year celebrations would not be complete without an abundance of delicious foods to savor and enjoy with family, friends and loved ones. All dining locations throughout the Resort will have a wide variety of both specialty food items and traditional Chinese delicacies, ranging from snacks to the most elaborate sit-down dinners for the whole family to enjoy together.
The Year of the Dragon also brings a whole new range of gift ideas for family and friends this Chinese New Year. There is something for everyone this year, so don’t forget to take a look for the perfect gift or keepsake to commemorate the season.
