Despite heat, records fall at Disneyland Half Marathon

Carlos Carballo blazed his way to a record-setting first-place finish at today's Disneyland Half Marathon.

The American runner completed the 13.1-mile course in 1 hour, 10 minutes, 7 seconds – for a blistering 5:20-mile pace and a race record. Kevin Broady won the inaugural race last year in 1:11:29.

Suzy Schumacher won the women's race in 1:24:07, also setting a race record. Kim Jones won last year in 1:25:01.

Hours before the day creeped into triple-digit heat, 10,000 runners and walkers wound their way through Anaheim's Resort District, rerouting traffic and causing I-5 exit closures.

Rounding out the top five men are: Jeff Huxhold, 1:14:09; Benjamin Gomez-Gutierrez, 1:14:24; Jeff Ambos, 1:14:52; and Jason Geraghty, 1:15:29.

Rounding out the top five women are: Kim Mueller, 1:26:28; Sherri Ellerby, 1:27:29; Edith Martinez, 1:32:04; and Mandy Larkins, 1:33:06.
