‘Narnia’ still tops at foreign box office

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Disney’s big cat roared even louder at the foreign box office this weekend as “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe” solidified its No. 1 position with an estimated haul of $30.6 million (17.27 million pounds), as its total rose to a mighty $277 million.
Combined with its domestic take, “Narnia’s” global box office stands at $525 million. Territory totals include $66.5 million in the U.K., and $28.1 million in France.

“King Kong,” meanwhile, grossed an estimated $24 million from 57 territories. The 26-day international total gross is $272 million, which, combined with “Kong’s” domestic tally, puts it global take at about $465 million. .

In the U.K., “Kong” has earned $45.4 million, and its French haul rose to $22.5 million. The German tally is $18.8 million, while Japan has contributed $15.5 million.

“Chicken Little” passed the century mark as its foreign total rose to $105.5 million.

“Jarhead” began its foreign campaign in nine territories with an estimated $4 million.

“Fun With Dick & Jane” stole $5.2 million from 11 territories for total of $11 million. The remake of the 1977 comedy did notably well in Germany, Austria, German-speaking Switzerland and Portugal, finishing in the No. 1 spot in each market. In Australia, “Dick & Jane” pulled in an estimated $1.2 million for a two-week haul of $6 million.
