Walt Disney loved the nostalgic and hoped that some of the things of the past would never be lost.  So, when Walt designed Main Street, U.S.A., he wanted it to represent a turn-of-the-century midwestern town, much like the one he grew up in.  Inspired by Marceline, Missouri, Walt along with the Imagineers captured America from 1890 to 1920, at the crossroads of an era.  They completed Main Street, U.S.A. with gas lamps, hitching posts, horse-drawn streetcars, and architecture that was common to that time.  However, over time, Main Street has evolved slightly to represent an idealized version of everyone’s hometown – regardless of age or background everyone can relate to the charm, warmth and welcoming spirit you feel as you walk down Main Street, U.S.A.

Horse-Drawn Trolley:  Tracks were laid the whole length of Main Street U.S.A. to give guests a feel of how transportation was before motor vehicles came into the world.  This 30-passenger trolley clickity-clacks it’s way down Main Street U.S.A. daily and gives passengers a real look back into an era that we only read about.  If you are lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the Dapper Dans of Disneyland performing one of their famous and most beloved musical melodies.

Fire Engine:  The fire engine was another of Walt’s favorites.  He would often times spend the night in his apartment above the Fire House and take the fire engine for an early morning drive up and down Main Street before the park opened.  Now you can give your feet a rest and jump aboard this classic 1900’s model fire engine.  It comes complete with a bell in the back to warn other guests that you are on your way to the other end of Main Street.

Omnibus:  This 45-passenger bus is modeled after a 1927 New York City Double-Decker and gives an unique view of Main Street U.S.A. as you ride to the opposite end.  Often times you might even catch a glimpse of your favorite Disney characters taking the short trip down Main Street.

Horse-less Carriage:  This vintage open-air vehicle sputters it’s way down Main Street, U.S.A. giving guests a glimpse of the first horse-less carriages of the day.  They were modeled after authentic 1903 vehicles, and cause many heads to turn as you hear its trademark “Ah-oo-ga” horn blow.

Walt Disney said, "For those of us who remember the carefree time it recreates, Main Street will bring back happy memories. For younger visitors, it is an adventure in turning back the calendar to the days of grandfather's youth."  For many guests, Main Street has become a favorite spot to sit, relax and reminisce after a long day at the park and that is exactly what Walt hoped to create.
