Walt Disney loved the nostalgic and hoped that some of the things of the past would never be lost. So, when Walt designed Main Street, U.S.A., he wanted it to represent a turn-of-the-century midwestern town, much like the one he grew up in. Inspired by Marceline, Missouri, Walt along with the Imagineers captured America from 1890 to 1920, at the crossroads of an era. They completed Main Street, U.S.A. with gas lamps, hitching posts, horse-drawn streetcars, and architecture that was common to that time. However, over time, Main Street has evolved slightly to represent an idealized version of everyone’s hometown – regardless of age or background everyone can relate to the charm, warmth and welcoming spirit you feel as you walk down Main Street, U.S.A.
