The Mad Hatter and March Hare have been celebrating everybody’s Un-birthday at the Mad Tea Party since Disneyland’s opening day on July 17, 1955, although it hasn’t always been in the same location.

On opening day, the Mad Tea Party was located just behind the castle where King Arthur’s Carrousel is now located. In 1983, the Mad Tea Party was moved to its current location as part of the Fantasyland restoration.
The Mad Tea Party, also known as the teacups, invites guests to take a spin in one of the 18 colorful teacups that spin on three different revolving turntables. Each teacup has a wheel in the middle of it, which lets each rider control the speed of their individual teacup. However, the teacups became the point of controversy in 2004 when, after a maintenance closure, it was found that the teacups were tightened making it impossible to spin at any great speed.
