The Pacific Wharf is a sub-land of Disney’s California Adventure, which was modeled after Monterey’s Cannery Row and San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf as a tribute to California’s fishing industry. The area is mainly restaurants and cafes, which offers a great place to sit and relax for a while. It also features two self guided tours of the Boudin Bakery and the Mission Tortilla Factory that you can enjoy at your leisure.
Boudin Bakery Tour
The Boudin Bakery Tour takes guests on a humorous video tour of the sourdough bread making process. Hosted by Rosie O’Donnell and Colin Mochrie, this tour lets you witness the secrets of a 150-year-old process through a glass-walled tour of the Boudin Bakery. On this tour, you will get an unobstructed look into the art of creating the world-famous Sourdough bread. During the tour, you can enjoy a small sample of the bread, but if you really want to enjoy the bread, stop by the Pacific Wharf Café where you can order soup in a sourdough bread bowl or a loaf of sourdough bread shaped like Mickey Mouse.
Mission Tortilla Factory Tour
On the Mission Tortilla Factory Tour you will get a taste of California’s heritage as you watch fresh dough being transformed into hot, tasty tortillas. This walk through presentation starts with a movie from a trio of school children on the importance of corn to the native pre-Columbian cultures of Mexico and Latin America. Once allowed past this point, there are some holographic projections of a traditional family preparing tortillas and several murals and vignettes for your viewing pleasure. Once inside the actual factory itself is where you will get to see first how the process of making a Mission Tortilla. There are actually two working production lines, one for corn tortillas and one for flour tortillas, however, the majority of the time only the flour one is in production. At the end of the tour, you are treated to a fresh, hot off the production line tortilla for you to enjoy as you exit.
