Anyone who has seen the movie “A Bug’s Life” knows that Flik is one very crafty ant. We all know that he has built things to help with the food harvest, but what if Flik tried to build his own amusement park? In Flik’s Fun Fair, he did just that… Flik built his own amusement park! Since he was an ant, ordinary building materials weren’t available to him, so Flik had to come up with some very creative uses for everyday items like pie plates and umbrellas to use in his attractions.
Flik’s Fun Fair does contain a variety of attractions that are designed to appeal to younger guests, but kids and adults alike will enjoy the opportunity to look at the world from a “bug’s eye view”. In Flik’s Fun Fair, everything is oversized and gives the illusion that you have shrunk to bug size! There are huge four leaf clovers that provide shade and there are bug lamps that are mounted on very tall straws. Kids will have fun with the attractions, while the adults will find humor and be entertained by some of the Imagineers’ creative touches, like the use of discarded Chinese food take-out containers and Popsicle sticks.
Additional Trivia and Fun Facts:
* Flik’s Fun Fair is one of the only sub-lands that didn’t open with the park. When Disney’s California Adventure first opened, Flik’s Fun Fair was just another backstage area and Bountiful Valley Farm was the whole land. When the initial reaction to the park wasn’t as strong as anticipated, it was decided that more stuff for young children needed to be done and the area was re-themed and given over to the character’s of Pixar’s “A Bug’s Life”. It opened on October 7, 2002.
* Take time to look around at some of the materials being used to decorate the area. Among other things, you will find parts of “Cowboy Crunchies” cereal boxes, “Casey Jr.” cookie boxes, and Chinese food take-out containers.
* Flik’s Fun Fair covers 1-1/3 acres.
* John Lasseter of Pixar worked with Disney Imagineers in creating A Bug’s Land.
