When Walt Disney envisioned Disneyland, he wanted to make a land where adventure was around every turn and that is exactly what you get when you load a cargo boat on the Jungle Cruise.
Walt’s original plan for the Jungle Cruise adventure was to be a tour of real animals. This didn’t work out, however, due to zoologists informing Walt that many of the animals would be asleep in the daytime. His plan became a reality many years later when the Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World opened. Instead of using real animals for the Jungle Cruise, Walt had to fall back on plan B, animatronics.
During this adventure through the jungles of Asia, Africa and South America, you will encounter many animals along the journey including elephants (elephant happiness!), tigers, monkeys, rhinos (they like to get their point across), hippos, and many more. On this dangerous cruise, you are also guaranteed to be entertained by your witty river guides. Yes the jokes may be a little corny, but it only adds to the fun of the adventure.
There have been many times the Jungle Cruise has been closed for refurbishments over the years. The most recent was in 2005 when they temporarily closed the Jungle Cruise for the addition of Piranhas and some updates to the trashing the camp scene.
