After riding aboard the sailing ship Columbia, Mr. Potato Head decided that he should try traveling on more ships. First things first though, he needed to rest, get some food, and rejuvenate before the next stage of his journey through the happiest place on earth. He found a nice little place to do all of these things. As he sat there contemplating what to do next, he started talking with a purple bear that apparently was named Diva. “It’s a strange name, but it is also strange to find a purple bear at Disneyland,” Mr. Potato Head thought as they chatted away.

Mr. Potato Head told his newfound friend of his desire to travel aboard more ships at Disneyland. “I know of a place where supposedly there are space ships!” Diva responded. “It is some place called Space Mountain. They fly you through the galaxy and I’m told they are really fast!” she explained as they left the restaurant. They soon arrived at the entrance to Space Mountain. As they gawked up at the mountain towering behind the sign before them, Mr. Potato Head felt a shiver go through his veins. “I hope this is a good idea” he thought to himself. With a deep breath they started the climb up the mountain. They climbed, and climbed, and climbed, and climbed… “Potatoes definitely were not made for climbing!” Mr. Potato Head gasped as they neared the first plateau on the mountain.

“Look! A landing platform and no line!!!” Mr. Potato Head shouted as he scrambled over to a giant circle on the middle of what appeared to be a giant landing area on Space Mountain. He was ecstatic as he and his purple friend Diva sat and waited for the spaceship to come and blast them through the universe. The whole blasting through the universe concerned him a little bit. He hoped being blasted through the universe was nothing like being broiled. That would not make for a good experience.

Mr. Potato Head waited for their spaceship ride to come. They waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. As they waited, they watched people file past them and into the bowels of the mountain. “It looks like they are walking into a giant mountain of doom” Diva commented as they watched yet another group of people disappear into the mountain. “I really hope this ship comes soon, I’m going to get fried in this heat.” Mr. Potato Head complained. Maybe this whole spaceship idea hadn’t been such a great one.

Finally Mr. Potato Head and Diva decided they had waited long enough and it was time to give up and do something else. But what else would be as cool as a trip through space? There was a yellow submarine that seemed to be taking people on a cruise through an underwater cavern they could see in the distance. They also heard that there was another spaceship that would give them a tour through space somewhere they heard from a person walking by.

Just as they were about to leave, someone walked up and asked why they were standing there. After a quick explanation they discovered that they needed to go inside the mountain where they could get aboard the spaceships. They laughed at themselves as they realized how foolish they must have looked standing in the middle of this landing platform that apparently must be an emergency backup, or perhaps it was a fire escape Mr. Potato Head speculated. Leaving that thought behind, they headed towards the gaping hole in the side of the mountain.

As they got closer, Mr. Potato Head saw that it really wasn’t the dark and scary hole in the side of the mountain he had thought it was. It turned out that instead it was well lit with a giant lit up sign saying SPACE MOUNTAIN. The way the sign was lit up did scare him slightly as giant lit signs like that tended to generally serve potatoes as food rather than serve them as guests. As they waited in line, he could hear the sounds of ships landing and then whizzing off into space. This was going to be great! It was finally their time to board their own small ship. As they blasted off into space Mr. Potato Head felt the rush of space flying past him. He felt dizzy as starlight flashed, spun, and whizzed past him. He felt his insides being squished right, left, up and down.

Suddenly there was a great flash and a loud explosive noise filled his ears. And suddenly he realized he was back where he had started in the spaceport. What a rush! He laughed aloud and commented on how he could get used to space travel. He wanted more of it. He loved blasting through the stars and flying at mach whatever. This was much better than his first space adventure when that Zurg guy attacked him.

He had to do it again! He scrambled back into the line, which was surprisingly short and re-entered the mountain. He was not afraid this time as they entered the mountain. This could easily become his new favorite thing at Disneyland. He marveled yet again at how things just kept getting better and better at Disneyland. What a great place!

As he viewed the photo from the last flashing roar, he had to wonder how he could possibly beat this trip through inner or outer space. He really had no clue what the difference was between inner or outer space. He did now want to go on the tour through space that he also heard was available in Tomorrowland. Maybe that would be his next adventure at Disneyland!
