Sunday Spotlight: Talking Mickey Mouse

Today we celebrate Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday! Through the last nine decades, Mickey Mouse has brought joy and laughter to millions of fans around the globe. One of the ways he has brought joy, laughter, and magic in more recent years is by talking with guests. In multiple instances, Mickey Mouse has held conversations with Disney fans in the Disney Parks and also at the D23 Expo! This is a truly magical experience and brings the magic of Disney to a whole new level. Through the years, Mickey has chatted with guests in different locations and with different experiences. Today, let’s celebrate Mickey Mouse by taking a look at these magical experiences!

Talking Mickey at Disney California Adventure

In 2017 for a brief time, Mickey Mouse could be found telling jokes at Disney California Adventure. DAPS MAGIC team member Caitie stopped by to say hi.

Talking Mickey in Town Square at the Magic Kingdom

For quite some time, Mickey Mouse could be found talking with guests and doing magic tricks in Town Square at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. As he prepared to do a magic show, he’d take a few minutes to chat with guests and also perform some Disney magic!

2011 D23 Expo

In 2011, Mickey Mouse could be found chatting with guests at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California! Two of our team members were able to meet him!

Toontown at Disneyland

As far as DAPS MAGIC is aware, the first appearance of talking Mickey was at Mickey’s House in Toontown at the Disneyland Resort. This occurred in March of 2011. It was a truly magical experience and actually was what brought Murray onto the DAPS MAGIC team. He discovered talking Mickey and then messaged me with the following videos.

There have been other instances, mainly shows or presentations, where Mickey Mouse has also spoken and interacted with people. However, talking Mickey when he talks face to face with guests is what we are focusing on for this week’s Sunday Spotlight. What is your favorite version of talking Mickey?
