The third and final day of the 2017 D23 Expo has come and gone. As is often the case, this day was a little bit more laid back than the previous two. Most of the news was made on Saturday. A big portion of today focuses on memories and detail. A making of Hercules panel took place today. Alan Menken shared his career in music in a concert. Voice of Disneyland Bill Rogers recorded voicemail for people. And for the most part, everyone tried to cram in all the things they hadn’t hit yet during the weekend.
A Whole New World of Alan Menken
Alan Menken performed twice today at the D23 Expo. This one-man show goes on a musical journey through the music that he has made. Murray the Bellhop was able to attend this magical event. It is amazing to think of how many songs that we know and love came from Menken. This show debuted at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts last fall. Throughout the show he played his favorite songs and also shared his own personal thoughts.
D23 Expo Floor
Sunday always seems to be the day that I catch the things I hadn’t caught before on the D23 Expo floor. I had some nitro cold brew coffee with a Mickey art on top. I had time to stop by the CHOC Walk booth and chat with the good people there for some time. Sunday also just gave plenty of time to connect with people on the floor you know and just enjoy being together. There is so much to see and do. It is so hard to stop and really catch the details on Friday and Saturday. Thank goodness for Sunday’s less hectic schedule.
D23 Expo Street Party
Throughout the weekend there has been multiple presentations of the D23 Expo Street Party. Each time there are people singing and carrying balloons and other’s dancing. Generally they are joined by a celebrity parade marshal and of course Mickey and the gang. Each day this event made its way across the D23 Expo floor numerous times. It was a fun way to see some famous faces and also experience some Disney magic!
With the announcement that Fantasmic! would be premiering all weekend. Many of those in attendance at the D23 Expo are heading to Disneyland tonight to catch the newest version of this beloved nighttime spectacular. Many of the people are buzzing from exciting moments this weekend and are looking forward to capping their weekend with a night at the happiest place on Earth!
The day wrapped up for me in a most magical way. Susan Egan sang the many songs of Beauty and the Beast in all its incarnations. It was beautiful. It was magical. It was a perfect Disney ending to a weekend full of Disney. I couldn’t have asked for a better send off! It wasn’t something I planned on seeing but it was definitely something I will treasure!
There will be plenty to discuss about this weekend in coming days and weeks. We will be posting articles, videos, and more as we disseminate all the information that came from this D23 Expo. The big question always is though, what’s first? Let us know in the comments what you would like to cover first and if it should be a post or a subject on Geeks Corner or DAPscast!
We hope you have enjoyed our coverage of D23 Expo! We can’t wait until the next one. For the meantime though, we’ll just have to meet up in the parks and enjoy the continuation of Walt Disney’s dreams! See you in 2019 everybody!
