It originally opened on October 1, 1999 as IllumiNations 2000: Reflections of Earth as part of the Walt Disney World Millennium Celebration. When it continued past the Walt Disney World Millennium Celebration, the 2000 was dropped and the current name adopted.

Every night the torches around the lagoon of World Showcase are lit in anticipation of the story about Reflections of Earth being told. The story that is told is one of Chaos, Order, and then Meaning. The show includes fireworks, fire, lasers, fountains, lights and a massive Earth globe that floats in the center of the lagoon. The Earth globe is covered with an LED screen that shares images of Earth throughout the show.
