It’s time for the number one Disney story of the year! Shanghai Disneyland had been a long anticipated theme park opening.
The newest international Disney park was having some of the most advanced attractions of any park currently. With the 2015 D23 Expo unveiled a lot of looks of lands and rides of the parks, more and more people were starting to plan trips for the opening. Yet, not much information was available until this year as far as tickets being available and what would be offered on opening day.
It wasn’t until March that things began to be real, and especially for me. I was one of the fortunate that got an opening day ticket, and began to plan the trip out to see this new park.
The grand opening festivities started a couple days before its June 16 actual opening. A special gala and first performance of The Lion King in Mandarin preceded the first operating day.
Then, it was time. The grand opening had some special surprises, and amazed guests. I got to be one of the first 50 paying guests who entered. And got to spend two days around the large park.
Since its opening, an expansion has already been announced in the form of Toy Story Land. Like the rest of the park, it’s to be a Chinese culture influenced area of the park that also incorporates Disney characters. Shanghai Disneyland also has been influencing other Disney parks including Hong Kong Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Over in Hong Kong, the Disneyland there wants a castle like the big one in its sister park, and has announced plans to expand their quaint Sleeping Beauty Castle into a larger one. DCA’s Lunar New Year in 2017 will use music from the grand opening to a World of Color preshow.
It’s clear that Shanghai Disneyland has had a profound impact on the Disney community, and is a destination to behold. Below is our coverage of the park, including opening day photos, video and more.
