The Disneyland Resort is planning to build a 7 story parking structure before the opening of its new Star Wars land. According to the Orange County Register, a new transportation hub will be built, along with a pedestrian bridge over Harbor Blvd, and also a 6,800 space parking structure that will reach seven stories high.
The new transportation hub will replace the current hub where buses currently bring guests to the Disneyland Resort from around Orange County, Disney parking lots, and local hotels. It will be connected to the Disneyland Resort through the raised walkway that will take the place of the current Carousel Inn and Suites which will close in October. Once these projects are completed, guests will go through a security screening before crossing the new bridge to the Disneyland Resort. At this time, there are no plans for a moving walkway on the bridge.
This project is being known as the Eastern Gateway Project and will allow cars on the Northbound 5 freeway to park at the Disneyland Resort without clogging up many of the local streets. The project is also part of the $1 billion pledge that the Resort made to Anaheim in exchange for the city not taxing park guests.
This Eastern Gateway Project is expected to be completed in late 2018.
